Tennis team gains early wins but still struggles at district
Mountain Home Tiger tennis enjoyed success early in the District III 4A Tennis Tournament last week.
But as the tournament progressed, the wins became fewer.
In boys singles, all three Mountain Home players won their first-round matches.
Tim Austin won his first match 6-2, 6-0. He won his second match in three sets to advance to the quarter-finals. He then lost, but faced teammate Austin Griswold and beat him to stay alive in the district tournament.
He lost Saturday morning but came back to win and to place seventh, qualifying him as an alternate to this week's state tourney.
Austin Griswold won his first match 6-4, 6-0 before losing his second match. He came back on Friday morning to win twice before facing teammate Tim Austin and lost to him to be eliminated from the tournament.
Brad Foreman won his first match 6-0, 6-1, but dropped his second match. He won twice Friday morning but was eliminated from the tourney with an afternoon loss.
Mountain Home's only other win in the boys tournament came in boys doubles, when first doubles team Nathan Gibbons and Marc Pelletier won one of three matches.
In girls' singles, Heidi Rawlins and Karina Guadarrama both won first-round matches.
Rawlins lost her next match and ended up playing four matches on Friday before losing to be eliminated. Guadarrama was eliminated with two losses after winning two matches. Kiana Galloway went out of the tourney after losing two tough matches.
The Mountain Home girls' doubles teams and mixed doubles teams were eliminated in two matches.
All things considered, Mountain Home Tiger tennis coach Tamzy House said, she thought they had a good tournament.
