Irene was born March 11, 1909, to Pierre "Pete" and Louise (Meuse) Doucette, in Bellivelle, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia. Irene was the twelfth of thirteen children, and was fond of talking about her large family.
As a teenager, Irene came to Massachusetts to work as a housekeeper, where she met Manuel "Manny" Mederios. Manny courted her for five years before finally talking Irene into being his bride. As she explained it, she wanted to go out dancing every week while she was still young and pretty.
Many and Irene had three children, Robert Manuel, Ann Lorraine and Carl Joseph, whom they raised in Wakefield, Mass. Irene remained in the family home until she was 95, when she came to Mountain Home, Idaho, to be near her only surviving child.
Irene enjoyed many activities such as sewing, knitting and crocheting, making many beautiful things for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Traveling was another of Irene's favorite pastimes. She visited many places around the world including Nashville, Las Vegas, London and the Vatican.
Irene was very musical and enjoyed playing the harmonica. In her later years, Irene loved to sing songs in French, much to the enjoyment of her family and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by both parents, all 12 brothers and sisters, her husband, Manny, her daughter, Lorraine Nickerson, her son, Robert Mederios, and her grandson Robert Mederios Jr.
She is survived by her son, Carl, and his wife, Judith Mederios, of Mountain Home, Idaho, ten grandchildren, and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren, and grand nieces and nephews from all over the country.
