Lady Tigers ready to resume season
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers get back into conference softball action this week after being off last week for spring break.
Lady Tiger coach Ron Nicolosi hopes the week off will help in all aspects of their game.
"This week gave the girls an opportunity to get away from the game and reevaluate the beginning of our season. It also gave us an opportunity to heal or evaluate how to handle our nagging injuries.
"We brought them back on Saturday for a workout, and due to the weather, we practiced indoors at the hitting facility. We put all our focus into hitting and our approach mentally at the plate. We started with a reevaluation of our team goals and individual goals. I felt that the girls had a renewed sense of commitment, to themselves and each other as a team.
"After our team meeting, the girls had an absolutely great workout. Going into the break, I was happy with our defensive play, for the most part, and our pitching has been good enough to win. Offensively is where we have struggled. We average eight runners left on base in the first eight games, and most of them in scoring position. We have to do better from top to bottom in the lineup, and I thought Saturday started us on the right path."
The Lady Tigers take a 2-6 overall record and 1-3 conference record into this week, with three games scheduled. They traveled to Caldwell on Tuesday, play at Skyview on Thursday and host Bishop Kelly on Friday.
Coach Nicolosi is optimistic going into this week's games.
"I'm confident we will get runners on base and that we'll have the right approach and hit our pitch like we are capable of, and we will do fine."
