Wrestlers win Buhl event
The Mountain Home Tigers brought home the championship trophy from the Buhl Invitational Wrestling Tourney over the weekend.
The Tigers, who had six wrestlers place in the top four, won the tourney with 151 points.
Weiser was second with 144. Battle Mountain, Nevada finished third with 138 points, and Spring Creek, Nevada and Snake River tied for fourth with 119 points.
There were 29 teams competing in the tourney.
Pierce Mederios won the 98-pound weight class. Tanner Sessions finished second at 145 pounds and Solomon Chung-Hee was second at 285.
Fourth place efforts went to Jacob Lucas (106 pounds), Jordan Pendleton (138) and Jacob Ryan (170).
"We had an amazing first day," said Tiger wrestling coach Lynn Knudson. "Fifteen straight wins. Best first day in any tournament, ever. It was pretty amazing, winning the tournament with only 11 wrestlers."
The Tigers have a conference dual at Caldwell Thursday night.
"I feel we should be able to beat Caldwell," said Coach Knudson. "Josh Deal is out of our lineup due to an injury, but I expect some of the JV wrestlers to step up."
The Tigers will had to Idaho Falls on Friday for the two-day Tiger-Grizz tourney.
"I feel the Tiger-Grizz Tourney will be a great test for our guys," the coach said. "I know our wrestlers are looking forward to it."

In related sports news, the Mountain Home Tigers junior varsity wrestling squad finished second at the Canyon Springs JV Tournament over the weekend, just one point out of first place.
Taking first place at the tourney were Hunter McCluskey, Seth Dolan, Blake Spagnolo and Jose Ortiz. Brett Stempfley finished second, Tyler McCall third and Jonathon Kaiser fourth.
