Lady Tigers pick up win before loss to Emmett
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers win streak was snapped at two Saturday night, with an overtime loss to Emmett.
Mountain Home 54, Columbia 41
The Lady Tigers picked up their second straight win last Tuesday night, beating Columbia 54-41 at Columbia.
Mountain Home jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, and led, 31-24 at the half. The Lady Tigers extended their lead in the second half to win 54-41.
"Jacci (Cristobal) was huge with her 26 points," said Mountain Home girls basketball coach Brent Keener. "But we also had some key minutes from girls off the bench like Kristan Jackson and Morgan Vivier. It was nice to see everyone contribute."
Jacci Cristobal led the Mountain Home scoring attack with a new season and career-high 26 points. Mattie Bennett scored nine points, Whitney Sandberg added six, Tracey Gordon and Kristan Jackson both scored four, Morgan Vivier netted three and Sable Lohmeier had two points to round out the scoring.
Mountain Home shot well behind the three-point line, hitting nine of 17 for 53 percent. For the game, the team shot 37 percent (20/54) from the field and connected on 63 percent (8/13) from the free-throw line.
Columbia shot 41 percent (17/42) from the field, including five of 10 (50 percent) beyond the arc. They were just two of seven (29 percent) from the foul line.
Emmett 52, Mountain Home 47
A poor shooting night from the field did the Lady Tigers in Saturday night, as they lost to Emmett 52-47 in overtime in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.
Mountain Home shot out to a 5-0 lead and led 13-7 after a quarter. The Lady Tigers lost the lead in the second quarter, but battled back to tie the game at 16 at the half.
The game went back and forth in the second half, with the score tied at 40 at the end of regulation.
There were seven ties and 12 lead changes, with Emmett making the most of their last lead, beating the Lady Tigers 52-47 in overtime.
"We were plagued by foul trouble and missed a ton of shots in close," said Coach Keener after the game. "We got a lot of good looks at the basket all night, but just couldn't convert. Obviously, very frustrating and disappointing."
Mattie Bennett, Jacci Cristobal and Tracey Gordon each scored 11 points to led Mountain Home -- for Gordon, it was a new season and career-high. Sable Lohmeier had a season-high eight points, and Whitney Sandberg had six points to round out the scoring.
Mountain Home shot a frigid 19 percent (15/81) from the field, connecting on just two of 13 (15 percent) three-pointers. The Lady Tigers made 58 percent (15/26) from the free-throw line.
Emmett shot 51 percent (19/37) from the field, including two of five (40 percent) outside the arc. They hit 75 percent (12/16) from the foul line.
The loss dropped Mountain Home to 2-2 in conference and 2-4 overall. The Lady Tigers are on the road tonight (Wednesday) at Skyview, and Friday night at Nampa, both games conference games.
"They're going to be two really tough games," Coach Keener said. "We're going to have to play very well to compete."
