Soccer squad ends season with wins
The Mountain Home Tigers closed out their regular season boys soccer schedule with wins over Emmett and Kuna last week.
Mountain Home 5, Emmett 1
The Mountain Home Tigers celebrated Senior Night with a 5-1 win over the Emmett Huskies Tuesday night in a boys soccer game played on Tiger Field.
Keko Sanchez, Juan Sanchez, Paul Rooney, David Arciniega and James Pack scored goals. Juan Sanchez and Jesus Araujo had assists.
Jack Richelieu had eight saves on goal. Gavin Guillen had one.
"It was great to send out our seniors with a win," said Tiger boys soccer coach Jay Lockett. "It was good to see a few of the seniors score, like James, Keko and Juan.
"I'd like to give a shout out to Susan Richelieu for everything she did for Senior Night, and also to all the fans who showed up to make it great."
Mountain Home 5, Kuna 1
Mountain Home beat Kuna Thursday, 5-1, at Eastside Park in Mountain Home, to end its regular season schedule.
Keko Sanchez scored all five goals, with Jesus Araujo and Alex Dominguez getting assists.
Jack Richelieu had six saves on goal. Gavin Guillen had three.
"It was a good game to end this great season," said Coach Lockett. "We've had some road blocks this season, but we've learned from them. It's made us a better team for it."
The Tigers finish their conference schedule 10-4-2, with 32 points, just three points behind Bishop Kelly and Caldwell, who both tied for first with 35 points.
Bishop Kelly received the number one seed for the district tournament based on their head-to-head play with Caldwell (a win and a tie). The third-place Tigers opened District III 4A Tournament play Monday at home against sixth seed Nampa.
"We've got to remember that our record is now 0-0 and a new season," said Coach Lockett, "but we are ready, mentally and physically, and hungry for more."
In this week's up-close look at the Mountain Home Tigers boys soccer team, the Mountain Home News looks at two more members of the 2013 Tiger boys soccer team.
James Pack
James Pack is a senior member of the Tigers, the son of Robert Pack and Constance Kiseo.
Pack is excited as they had into District.
"We're doing great. Coach has been trying to get us to state since our freshman year, and I think we're going to get there this year. We've just got to go out strong and hard every game."
Carlos Pedroza
Carlos Pedroza is a senior member of the Tigers, the son of Jose and Laura Pedroza. He's optimistic going into the district tourney.
"I think we're going to do pretty good, because we've stayed strong and come together. In the beginning, we weren't that close -- we were more diverse-- and later in the year we've been bonding and we've gotten stronger and have gotten to know each other more."
Pedroza could not think of a better way to end his senior year than making it to state.
"That would be great," he said.
