Swede Thorpe
Verna "Swede" E. Thorpe, 86 of Mountain Home, passed away Sept. 25, 2013, at a Mountain Home care center.
Per her request, no services will be held. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
Swede was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Tacoma, Wash., to Lawrence and Pearl Smith. Swede moved to Idaho at the age of five years old and attended schools in Jerome.
Swede met Donald R. Thorpe when she was sixteen. It was love at first sight. Swede married Donald on May 9, 1944. They were married for 69-plus years, a marriage made in heaven.
Swede enjoyed fishing and hunting over the years. She almost made the Boone and Crockett Record book by a few inches on a set of elk horns. Swede was a hard-working wife, mother and friend, helping anyone in need.
Verna is survived by: her husband, Donald; her daughter, Darleen, and her husband, Robert Ahlsehlager; daughter Sheryl Thorpe, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister and her oldest daughter, Donna Thorpe Wilgus.
