Farewell luncheon for KMHI slated
A farewell luncheon will be held Friday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the studios of KMHI-AM (originally KFLI), located at 1871 Canyon Creek Rd.
KMHI-AM (formerly KFLI) is in the process of being sold by Boise's Impact Radio Group to Calvary Chapel of Twin Falls. The station will change formats to all-Christian radio (and may change call letters).
The luncheon is a "hosted" event for the first 50 members of the History of Idaho Broadcasting and is provided free of charge courtesy of member Darrell Calton, the CEO of Impact Radio Group, the current owners of KMHI-AM.
The program will be on the history of KFLI-AM (1962-1983), KJCY (1983-1989), KLVJ (1989-1997) and KMHI (1997-present).
The host will be Idaho sportscaster "Alvin Lee" Powers, who started at KFLI in 1972 and has either worked for the radio station or done Mountain Home High School play-by-play for 41 years... a record only KBOI's Paul J. Schneider can match.
Pictures and memorabilia will be available, as well as audio clips. The station also hopes to have many past owners, managers, announcers, and sales people make some brief appearances, either in person or via audio tape.
Among the many broadcasters who worked at KFLI are Jack Jensen, Larry Cain, Lorraine Kaplan and Dave Freeman.
"We encourage anyone and everyone who worked for KFLI, KJCY, KLVJ, and KMHI to attend and to share their memories, which will be recorded on tape and become part of our permanent achives of this great radio station," Powers said. RSVP to HIBF@Q.com by noon this Thursday, Sept. 26. For further information or to RSVP by phone, call Art at 465-8007.
