Avis Simmonds

Our loving mother, Avis J. Simmonds, 95, passed away on Sept. 4, 2013.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home on Saturday, Sept.14. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Avis was born in Gooding, graduating from Gooding High in 1935. She attended college at Gooding Methodist College and graduated in 1965 from the University of Idaho.

She married Ross Simmonds in 1937 and lived in Boise, Idaho Falls, and Mountain Home, teaching in all three places.

Avis was an active member of the PEO sisterhood for 73 years.

She is survived by sons Rik of Vancouver, Wash., Jim of Blaine, Wash., and Tom of Eagle, their spouses, 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross, and son Doug.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Cottages of Mountain Home, at 735 S. 5th West St.

We express our sincerest gratitude and love to mom's lifelong friend and "sister," Elaine McCalley, and the staff of The Cottages of Mountain Home.
