Lady Tigers face Skyview in volleyball season debut
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers open their 2013 volleyball season Thursday evening against Skyview, and go to the Kuna Klassic on Friday and Saturday.
Jill Peterson moves up from coaching the Lady Tiger JV to coach the varsity this season. She indicated they had a great turnout for volleyball.
"We had a great turnout for tryouts this year," the coach said. I'm feeling very optimistic because we had a good turnout over the summer and in our spring practices, and tryouts were good, we filled all the teams, so feel good about it."
Coach Peterson is also optimistic about the season and the potential this year's group of girls have.
"We're having fun," he said. "I'm asking the girls to go through some changes. They have some bad habits we're trying to fix early in the season so we can get those fixed and move on to getting into a more powerful, being a more powerful team."
Coach Peterson is not sure what to expect from the conference race this season.
"I don't know, but we're going to the Kuna tournament in two weeks, and we'll see a lot of our (conference) teams there," he said. "I'm sure Skyview's going to be tough like they are every year. Columbia has a new coach and I'm curious to see what she does with the talent that they have over there. Kuna is always going to be a challenge, and I know they some young kids coming up that are really talented."
The Lady Tigers will be home Thursday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium to take on Skyview. The night gets underway with sophomore action at 4:30 p.m. The varsity contest is slated for 6:30 p.m.
