A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Union Pacific train near the 5th Street crossing near Taco John's Wednesday night.
The man has been identified as Christopher S. Luxford, 30, of Mountain Home.
Sgt. Rick Viola of the Mountain Home Police Department said the incident was reported by the crew aboard the eastbound train at approximately 10:08 p.m. Wednesday night. Police found the body about 700 feet west of the crossing.
The track was closed until about 11:50 p.m.
Anyone that may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Mountain Home Police Department at 587-2101 or the department's Silent Witness Link, http://www.mhpd.net/silentwitness.htm.
Police also are hoping to utilize the "black box" video information aboard the train to help determine exactly where the man was struck, possibly provide some indication of how he came to be in the path of the train, and what the speed of the train was at the time.
