A need to yield

Officer Tommy Arnold from the Mountain Home Police Department keeps an eye on traffic on American Legion Boulevard as he ensures drivers yield to a new flashing pedestrian crosswalk signal at the intersection of North 14th East Street.
City street crews installed the crossing signals on the street as part of an ongoing effort to make it safer for pedestrians and bike riders to cross the busy thoroughfare.
According to local traffic codes, drivers on American Legion Boulevard are required to stop when these lights start flashing and are not allowed to continue until the lights turn off. Meanwhile, pedestrians and bicyclists crossing American Legion at this intersection need to activate the crossing lights before they step onto the street. However, people do not need to activate these new lights if they plan to cross North 14th East Street on either side of American Legion.
