Thinclads dominate field during meet at Columbia
The Mountain Home Tigers dominated both the girls and boys competition at a track and field tri-meet at Columbia High School in Nampa last Thursday.
Mountain Home won the girls competition, rolling up 147.5 points, as they took first in 16 of 18 events.
Selena Foster was a triple-winner, winning the high jump, triple jump and pole vault.
Jhorie Kelly, Tracey Gordon, Arisha Karren and Kristen Kreutzer were all double winners. Kelly won the 100-meter high hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. Gordon won the 200 meters and long jump. Karren won the 1600- and 3200-meter runs, and Kreutzer won the shot put and discus.
Mckena Shockley won the 300-meter hurdles.
Mountain Home also won all girls relays. Ashley Harmon, Olivia Ostberg, McKenzie Sandberg and Whitney Sandberg won the 4x100-meter relay. Harmon, Ostberg, Jhorie Kelly and Whitney Sandberg won the 4x200-meter relay. Mattie Bennett, Kristan Jackson, Heather Brononsky and Marissa Streeter won the 4x400-meter relay, and Harmon, McKenzie Sandberg, Ostberg and Tracey Gordon won the medley relay.
Mountain Home had 12 second-place efforts.
Andrea Dickenson finished second in the 800- and 1600-meter runs, and Leeann James also had two second-place efforts in the shot put and discus.
Other second-place finishes went to Ashley Harmon in the 100 meters, Marissa Streeter in the 200, Mekena Shockley in the 100-meter high hurdles, Jacci Cristobal in the 300-meter hurdles, Natasha Feekes in the high jump, Madison Batchelor in the pole vault, Selena Foster in the long jump and Jhorie Kelly in the triple jump.
Mountain Home had nine third-place efforts, including Marissa Streeter in the long jump and triple jump.
Other third-place efforts went to Olivia Ostberg in the 100 meters, Whitney Sandberg in the 200, Heather Sabol in the 800 meters, Erica Cook in the 1600-meter run, Jacci Cristobal in the 100-meter hurdles, Madison Batchelor in the high jump, and Alicia Reynolds in the pole vault.
Fourth-place efforts went to Heather Brononsky in the 200-meters, McKenzie Sandberg in the shot put, Anna Bailey in the discus, Mattie Bennett in the long jump, and Jacci Cristobal in the triple jump.
Mountain Home also had 16 first-place efforts in the boys competition, which they easily won, racking up 144 points.
Abraham Salas, Ryan Eckstrom and Jett Cristobal were double winners for Mountain Home. Salas won the 400- and 800-meter runs, Eckstrom won the 110-meter high hurdles and the pole vault, and Cristobal won the long jump and triple jump.
Other first-place finishes went to Nick Garza (100 meters), Malik Whitfield (200 meters), Jake Schaefer (3200 meters), Eric Reetz (300-meter hurdles) Cody Boguslawski (discus) and Chris Smith (high jump).
Mountain Home also won all four relay events. Nick Garza, Malik Whitfield, Sam Benzie and Michael Daniels won both the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x200-meter relay. Eric Reetz, Will Weygint, Connor Weygint and Devin Wright won the 4x400-meter relay, and Jett Cristobal, Devin Wright, Jake Schaefer and Abraham Salas won the medley relay.
Justin Johnson had second place efforts in the high jump and pole vault. Chance Llewellyn (100 meters), Jake Schaefer (400 meters), Nolan Pasqualetti (800 meters), Devin Wright (110-meter high hurdles), Ryan Eckstrom (300-meter hurdles), José Ortiz (shot put), and Dallin Dearing (discus) also had second place efforts.
Jonathan Deese had third-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Other thirds went to Nolan Pasqualetti (1600 meters), Eric Reetz (110-meter high hurdles), Devin Wright (300-meter hurdles), Cody Boguslawski (shot put), Jake Schaefer (high jump), Taylor Ogaard (pole vault), Taylor Simpson (long jump) and Chase Llewellyn (triple jump).
Fourth-place efforts went to Cody Ashby in the 800 and 1600-meter runs, and Will Weygint in both hurdle events.
Other fourth-place finishes went to Sam Benzie in the 100 meters, Jett Cristobal in the 200 meters, David Catts in the 400, Dallin Dearing in the shot put, Isaac Keown in the high jump, Billie Phillips in the pole vault and Tucker Holland in the triple jump.
"The scores are a little deceiving," said Tigers track coach Rich Urquidi. "Both Columbia and Skyview were traveling to an Invitational Friday and only had partial squads competing, but it did give some younger athletes a chance to earn some varsity points."
The Tiger thinclads close out their regular season schedule Thursday at Tiger Field against Emmett and Kuna. The District III 4A tournament meet starts May 9 at Emmett.
