Tigers finish second during local track & field meet
Mountain Home finished second in both the girls and boys competition at Friday's home track meet.
Canyon Ridge of Twin Falls won the girls meet with 103 points, seven points ahead of Mountain Home's 96. Skyview was third with 90, Kuna had 53 and Bishop Kelly brought up the rear with 12 points.
First-place efforts for Mountain Home in the girls meet went to Selena Foster in the pole vault and Kristen Kreutzer in the shot put. Foster's vault of nine feet, seven inches set a new school record.
Second-place efforts went to Makena Shockley in the 100-meter high hurdles, Selena Foster in the triple jump, and Mattie Bennett in the 300-meter hurdles and the long jump. Bennett was also on the medley relay team (with Whitney Sandberg, Olivia Ostberg and Marissa Streeter) that finished second. Mountain Home's 4x100-meter relay team of Ashley Harmon, Olivia Ostberg, McKenzie Sandberg and Whitney Sandberg also finished second.
Third-place efforts went to Ashley Harmon in the 100 meters, Olivia Ostberg in the 200, Leeann James in the discus, Selena Foster in the long jump, Mattie Bennett in the triple jump, and Jhorie Kelly in the 100-meter high hurdles and high jump. Harmon, Kelly and Ostberg were also members of the 4x200-meter relay team, along with Jacci Cristobal, that finished third.
Fourth-place efforts went to Kristan Jackson in the 400, Arisha Karren in the 3200, Jacci Cristobal in the 100-meter high hurdles, Selena Foster in the high jump and Marissa Streeter in the triple jump
Fifth-place efforts went to Whitney Sandberg in the 100 meters, Arisha Karren in the 1600, Makena Shockley in the 300-meter hurdles, Leeann James in the shot put and Kristen Kreutzer in the discus.
Jacci Cristobal placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Kuna won the boys competition with 131 points. Mountain Home finished second with 90.50, Canyon Ridge was third with 87.25, Skyview had 57.25 and Bishop Kelly had eight points.
Ryan Eckstrom had first-place efforts in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Nick Garza won the 100-meter dash and Michael Daniels won the triple jump.
Second-place efforts went to Abraham Salas in the 800, Eric Reetz in the 300-meter hurdles and Ryan Eckstrom in the pole vault. Mountain Home's 4x100-meter relay team (Nick Garza, Malik Whitfield, Chance Llewellyn and Michael Daniels) and 4x200-meter relay team (Nick Garza, Tanner Sessions, Chance Llewellyn and Malik Whitfield) also finished second.
Devin Wright finished third in the 300-meter hurdles, as did Cody Boguslawski in the discus, Taylor Ogaard in the pole vault and Michael Daniels in the long jump. Wright joined Eric Reetz, Pete Ramadan and Abraham Salas on the 4x400-meter relay team that also finished third.
Fourth-place efforts went to Devin Wright in the 110-meter high hurdles, Justin Johnson in the pole vault and the Mountain Home medley relay team of Will and Conner Weygint, Isaac Keown and Abraham Salas.
Abraham Salas finished fifth in the 400 meters, as did Cody Boguslawski in the spot put. Chris Smith was in a three-way tie for fifth in the high jump.
Sixth-place efforts went to Andy Croft in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, and to Nick Garza in the 200-meter dash.
"The Tigers again had a great meet," said Mountain Home head track coach Rich Urquidi. "Everyone that competed represented Tiger Track and Field to their best. We added five more athletes to add to the 18 athletes who had already qualified for the district championships in May. Ashley Harmon in the 100 meters and Arisha Karren in the 2100 both met qualifying times. Selena Foster in the long jump and Leeann James in the shot put also qualified in new events. Nick Garza in the 100 meters, Taylor Ogaard and Justin Johnson both in the pole vault all met qualifying times or marks, and Eric Reetz in the 300 intermediate hurdles, and Ryan Eckstrom in the high and intermediate hurdles also qualified."
The Tigers go to the Boise Relays on Friday and will host a tri-meet with Caldwell and Nampa on April 17.
