Wrestlers place during Minico event
Mountain Home wrestlers found the going tough at the Red Halverson Wrestling Tournament at Minico High School over the weekend.
The Tigers finished 19th at the invitational, which had 22 teams competing.
Jacob Lucas was the lone Tiger wrestler that placed at the tourney. The Tiger freshman finished sixth at 98 pounds.
Mountain Home Tigers wrestling coach Lynn Knudson was disappointed overall with the efforts of his Tigers during the Minico tournament.
"It was a really tough tournament and I feel like our kids went in there knowing that it was going to be a tough tournament and did not wrestle well-- matter of fact, maybe even a little bit scared to a point, if you want to say it that way. We'll fix things and get back on track.
"Hats off to Jacob Lucas at 98 pounds for us, who went out and wrestled a pretty dang good tournament and ended up placing sixth, so that's pretty good at a tournament with 22 high-quality teams."
The Tigers had their make-up match at Bishop Kelly Tuesday night, and host Kuna this Thursday night. JV action begins at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity to start around 7 p.m.
The Mountain Home junior varsity team traveled to Kimberly for a JV meet over the weekend and for the younger Tigers it was a good weekend, as they won the Kimberly tournament.
The Tiger JV won the tourney with 215 points. Centennial was second with 207.
Bobby Dominguez won the 126-pound weight class.
Finishing second were Seth Dolan (106), Brent Stempfley (145), Abraham Salas (152) and Jose Ortiz (285).
Finishing third were Daniel Cruz (152), Blake Spagnolo (170) and Dallin Dearing (220).
Placing fourth were David Welle (98), Taylor Ogaard (182) and Preston Hyde (195).
"Hat's off to the JV squad for bringing home the championship plaque from Kimberly," said Coach Knudson. "They did real well, so that's looking good."
