Fire chief issues warning on use of illegal fireworks

Friday, June 29, 2012

Interim Mountain Home Fire Chief Alan Bermensolo issued a simple message this week for local residents who are tempted to shoot illegal fireworks to celebrate Independence Day.

Don't do it.

According to state law, people are limited to using what are known as "safe and sane" fireworks. Those legal fireworks include those that don't explode or fly more than 10 feet in the air.

  • Seriously???? I am sure I am not the only one that appreciates every firetruck, piece of equipment and fireman that this town has. I find it hard to believe that you think 120,000 is not worth paying to save someone's life as well as prized possessions... those things are priceless. Also, as for me and my children knowing that the ladder truck helps in the safety of my husband and their father as he helps save someone's possessions or life. Whether it is used only a few times or numerious times I am thankful you are the minority in that vote....I must have also missed the part in the article that said only snakes and sparkles. It simply said please be careful and smart and don't use illegal fireworks. It was only a simple reminder after all the fire danger we have seen first hand. No sarcasm or rude comments were needed. Thank you Mhfd for your sacrifices and loss of sleep and missed fathersday bbqs, dance recitals, children sporting events, birthdays and holidays. You are appreciated and fly that flag high and proud for our military as a reminder of the sacrifices they have made for our freedom as well. Happy 4th of July.

  • Every year the fire chief puts out a phony warning not to use "illegal" fireworks. What a bunch of bunk! When was the last time anyone heard of an arrest for using illegal fireworks? A couple of years ago, we were watching the Independence Day fireworks from a friend's driveway when we were nearly clobbered by a very large bottle rocket launched from a couple of streets over. It only missed us by a mere couple of inches. My friend called the PD to report it and they never bothered to come around to check on the 'illegal" fireworks. Oh, maybe the fire department may actually investigate if someone starts a fire with illegal fireworks, as they would do for any fire but that's about the best that would come of it. Big Deal!
