Tiger boys win, girls place during Bishop Kelly track meet

After snow wiped out last Tuesday's meet at Skyview, the Mountain Home Tigers track squad headed to Bishop Kelly two days later, where the Tigers won the boys competition with the girls finishing third.

Mountain Home edged Caldwell, 85-76, to win the boys competition. Bishop Kelly trailed with 71 points with Columbia finishing with 40.

Mountain Home picked up seven first places, led by J.T. Cristobal, who won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump. Other first-place efforts went to Ricky Castillo in the 400 meters, Tyler Knauth in the 800, Raymond Aflague in the discus and Michael Daniels in the triple jump.

Michael Daniels had second-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, with Mike Price finishing second in the 3,200 meter run. The Tigers 4 X 100 meter relay team of J.T. Cristobal, Juan Silva, Nick Garza and Chaise Hopkins also finished second.

Mike Price finished third in the 1,600 meter run, and Tanner Sessions was third in the pole vault. Others finishing third for the Tigers were the 4 X 200 meter relay team of Cory Pinque, Nick Garza, Jorge Salinas and Malik Whitfield and the 1,600 meter medley relay team of Mike Price, Andrew Hoskins, Garza and Pinque.

Fourth-place finishes went to Jon Ryan in the discus, Billie Phillips in the pole vault, Michael Daniels in the long jump and Luke Filipovich in the triple jump.

Fifth-place efforts went to Nick Garza in the 100 meters, Ricky Castillo in the 200, Luke Filipovich in the high jump, Chaise Hopkins in the long jump as well as the 4 X 400 meter relay team of Tyler Knauth, Mike Price, Chaise Hopkins and Jorge Salinas.

Bishop Kelly won the girls competition with 113 points with Caldwell a distant second at 65. Mountain Home rounded out the top three with 55 while Columbia had 39.

Mountain Home first-place efforts went to Selena Foster in the high jump and triple jump, Kristen Kreutzer in the shot put and Keesha Janis-Gibson in the discus.

Second-place efforts went to Kristen Kreutzer in the discus, Janis-Gibson in the shot put, and Jhorie Kelly in the high jump. Janis-Gibson also finished third in the 3,200 meter run with Whitney Sandberg taking third in the 100 meters.

Others finishing third overall included the 4 X 100 meter relay of Whitney Sandberg, Mattie Bennett, Ashley Harmon and Tracey Gordon; the 4 X 400 meter relay of Marissa Streeter, Tracey Gordon, Venessa Estrella and McKenzie Sandberg; and the 800-meter medley relay team of Hannah Modde, Whitney Sandberg, Venessa Estrella and McKenzie Sandberg.

Meanwhile, Emilee Schetzle placed fourth in the discus with the 4 X 200 meter relay team of C.J. Bish, Megan Heinen, Kristan Jackson and Natasha Feekes also finishing fourth.

Fifth-place efforts went to Arisha Karren in the 3,200 meter run, Hailey Belt in the shot put, Selena Foster in the pole fault and Gordon in the long jump.

"What a difference a couple of days makes," said Tigers head track coach Rich Urquidi. "Our meet on Tuesday was cancelled... so I asked Bishop Kelly if we could come over there on Thursday, and we had a great day. The coaches saw improvement from our first meet, but we still have work to do."
