Tiger baseball falls to Nampa
The Mountain Home Tigers managed to get their home conference baseball game in, but rain forced a halt to Friday's game at Nampa and washed out Saturday's games home games against Jerome.
Bulldogs 2, Tigers 1
Pitching highlighted the Mountain Home-Nampa baseball game Thursday in Mountain Home with the Bulldogs holding off the Tigers, 2-1.
Nampa scored their two runs in the top of the fourth inning and the Tigers got one back in the bottom of the fifth. But that was all the scoring on the night as the Bulldogs won, 2-1.
Tigers head baseball coach Mark Cotton lamented their inability to score runs.
"We certainly had more than enough opportunities to win that game," he said. "We continually shot ourselves in the foot and were unable to score more runs. Alex (Rodriguez) threw a heck of a game today. That was one of the best outings I've seen him have in a Tigers uniform from start to finish. He just happened to have some bad luck today. If he continues to pitch like that, we're going to be in great shape down the stretch."
Rodriguez suffered the loss, despite giving up just two hits while striking out eight batters. Only one of the two runs he gave up was earned.
Mountain Home had five hits off two Nampa pitchers. Joe Gutierrez singled in John Kennison with Mountain Home's lone run. Kennison had a hit, along with Rodriguez, Austin Bodily and Jake Hennessey.
This week has the Tigers traveling to Caldwell today, March 21, for a 5 p.m. game before Caldwell comes to Mountain Home on Friday for a 5 p.m. game.
