Short, Simonds engaged

J.C. and Theodora A. Short, of Mountain Home, announced the engagement of their daughter, Samantha Christina Short, to Derek G. Simonds, of Fultonville, N.Y.

A graduate from Abekka Academy, the bride-to-be attended classes in the Mountain Home School District as well as Faith Lutheran Elementary School and Shiloh Christian School. A member of the National Honor Society, she's the owner and master groomer of dogs and cats at Paw Spa in Meridian.

Adopted at age 2, Short is the granddaughter of J.C. and Theodora A. Short of Mountain Home. She's also the niece of Sylvia M. Nixon and cousin to Elijah J. Nixon, who also live in Mountain Home.

The son of Robert Simonds of New York and mother Jackie VanSchallek-Lawson of Florida, the groom-to-be served in the Air Force. Following his service commitment, he enrolled as a full-time university student in Boise.

A spring wedding is planned.
