Household chemicals linked to truck fire

A pile of garbage burns in the parking area of the First Student Bus Company as firefighters raced to the scene Thursday morning. According to a spokesperson with Republic Service, formerly known as Allied Waste, household chemicals or cleaning supplies mixed together in the vehicle's storage bay and ignited.
A combination of household chemicals mixing together was the likely cause of a fire that caused minor damage to a garbage truck Thursday morning.
The vehicle's driver was making his weekly rounds when he started to smell smoke and saw flames coming from his vehicle, according to Rachele Klein, a spokesperson with Republic Service, formerly known as Allied Waste.
