Lady Tigers falter against Lady Hawks, Lady Knights
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers dropped both conference games they played last week, losing to Skyview and Bishop Kelly.
Skyview 55, Mountain Home 36
Once again poor shooting on the road was Mountain Home's downfall Thursday night, as they lost at Skyview, 55-36.
The Lady Tigers fell behind early to the hot-shooting Lady Hawks, who led 16-2 at one point late in the first quarter. It was 18-7, Skyview, after a full quarter of play.
Mountain Home had its best shooting quarter in the second, hitting six of 17 shots (35 percent), but still trailed, 33-22, at the half.
The Lady Tigers made just three of 23 (13 percent) shots from the field in the second half, as Skyview won 55-36.
"That second quarter was about the only quarter we shot well," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger basketball coach Brent Keener in radio comments after the game "Part of it was effort and hustle. I don't think we did a very good job of hustling back. They got way too many easy buckets."
Teresa Fredell led the Lady Tigers in scoring with eight points, Keesha Janis-Gibson added seven, Emilee Schetzle netted six, Hailey Belt three, Courtney Christiansen and Madi Karst two each and Tessa Pachner one.
Mountain Home shot a chilly 23 percent (12/52) from the field, hitting one of four (25 percent) on treys. They shot 61 percent (11/18) of their free throws.
Skyview ended the night shooting 43 percent (23/53) from the field, hitting 33 percent (5/15) on shots beyond the arc. They made four of six (67 percent) free throw attempts.
Skyview won the battle of the boards, 39-29. Keesha Janis-Gibson led Mountain Home with six rebounds.
Bishop Kelly 36, Mountain Home 35
Bishop Kelly scored in the final seconds to edge the Lady Tigers 36-35 Saturday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.
Mountain Home started slow, and trailed the Lady Knights 9-4 after a quarter. It was 19-15, Bishop Kelly, at the half.
The Lady Tigers managed to grab the lead in the third quarter, but trailed 26-25 heading into the final eight minutes of the game.
Mountain Home regained the lead in the fourth quarter and was up 35-31 with 30 seconds left.
Bishop Kelly then hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 35-34. Mountain Home followed that by missing the front end of a one-and-one. The Lady Knights then stole an inbounds pass with seven seconds left and scored at the buzzer to edge the Lady Tigers, 36-35.
"This loss is definitely a hard one to swallow," said Coach Keener. "It's a game we did a great job of getting back into it and taking the lead. We just didn't hit some key free throws and protect the basketball when we needed to. Hopefully, we can learn from this and continue to get better. There were a lot of positives that came from the game We just have to build on them."
Keesha Janis-Gibson led Mountain Home in scoring with 17 points. Emilee Schetzle added five, Teresa Fredell and Selena Foster each had four, Courtney Christiansen three and Madi Karst two.
The Lady Tigers fall to 2-3 in conference and 2-5 overall. They travel to Kuna Friday night for a conference encounter.
