Soccer club struggles on field, falls to Skyview, B.K.
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers dropped two conference soccer games last week.
Skyview 8, Mountain Home 1
Skyview shot out to a 7-0 first-half lead on its way to an 8-1 conference win over Mountain Home at Skyview on Aug. 29.
Teresa Fredell scored Mountain Home's lone goal. Abree Duncan and CJ Bish combined for 12 saves on goal.
"They're a good team -- you can't take anything from them. They played very well," said Mountain Home girls soccer head coach Stephen Speak of Skyview. "They're a good bunch of girls and have a really good coach.
"It was a bit of a lesson for us, but these girls have a lot of spirit, and the further behind we get in games the harder we play. We've just got to play the first half like we play the last half."
Bishop Kelly 5, Mountain Home 0
The Lady Tigers, who lost Shannon Caldwell to an injury at Skyview, battled Bishop Kelly tough last Wednesday night at Eastside Park despite losing some other players to injuries, but came up short, 5-0.
"That was a gallant effort considering I only had nine fit starters, and we've got three freshmen coming in, and unfortunately picked up two more injuries," said Coach Speak after the game. "The only good thing about that is we've got just about a week off until our next game, so hopefully we can get back to full fitness and we'll make a charge.
"Under the circumstances, I can't fault them. They're putting their heart and soul out there every game, and to play against girls like that (Bishop Kelly) who have been recruited, who are most likely to go on and get scholarships, I think we really did ourselves proud, especially considering I think we lost to them 8 or 9-nil last year.
"So it's a moral victory, not necessarily a numerical victory, but I think they (the Lady Tigers) really did us proud out there. I think Bishop Kelly might have to think twice about us come district, so it all bodes well for the future. If we can just keep these girls fit. It's like being in an old peoples home with that many people limping around."
Coach Speak praised the play of freshman goalie C.J. Bish, who played in both the JV and varsity games, and had, "a phenomenal game."
The Lady Tigers, who dropped to 1-4 in league play and on the season, return to action Thursday at home against Kuna.
