Museum pie social, auction is Tuesday

The Mountain Home Historical Society will host its 10th Annual Pie Social on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

This year, the group is hosting a Peach Pie Baking Contest and is inviting bakers to take on the challenge.

Contest pies must be at the museum by 3 p.m. on Tuesday and in glass pie dishes with the maker's name and contact information, as well as where the ingredients were purchased (ten percent of the criteria is the use of local ingredients).

The top three winners will receive baskets filled with coupons and baking items.

The Peach Pie Baking Contest is in memory of Frank Hicks (1924--2011), who regularly baked peach and apple pies for the museum's Pie Social.

"This contest will honor his delight in baking and sharing his pies," event organizers said.

The five Peach Pie Contest judges are:

An Elmore County Commissioner, Mayor Tom Rist, Judge George Hicks, Jim Hicks and Mountain Home Historical Society President Marilyn Landers.

This judging starts at 4 p.m. in the city council chambers and is not open to the public.

"This exciting community event brings bakers and family memories together with each fruit, cream and nut-filled pie," said Nancy Marshall, the former museum director.

Peach pie contest winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m., after the pie auction.
