Deputies arrest individual following high-speed chase
Deputies with the Elmore County Sheriff's Office arrested a Wendell man following a high-speed chase Tuesday afternoon.
In addition to suspected drunken driving, Adolfo Acevedo-Villanueva faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident.
The pursuit started around 3 p.m. when county dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a pickup truck traveling recklessly on the westbound side of the interstate near milepost 132.
Reports indicate the pickup truck's top speed exceeded 100 miles per hour, said Deputy Kyle Moore. In addition, Acevedo-Villanueva drove off onto the shoulder on more than one occasion, kicking up rocks and dust.
A few minutes later, the pickup then collided with a westbound semi truck around milepost 124, Moore said. Although the vehicle sustained significant front-end damage, Acevedo-Villanueva was able to continue driving.
With two additional deputies enroute, the driver turned off the interstate at Exit 121 leading into Glenns Ferry. He continued through town and turned onto Highway 30 heading toward Hammett at a high rate of speed, Moore said. Deputies stopped him near the Cold Springs Road intersection.
Acevedo-Villanueva's passenger sustained a bloody nose during the earlier collision with the semi. According to Moore, the passenger's face apparently struck the front windshield and dashboard, indicating he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.
The results of the driver's blood-alcohol content test were pending.
