Artopia helps Relay for Life event
Dear editor:
I would like to publicly thank Mountain Home High School's Artopia Club.
Earlier this year, I approached Brenda Raub and asked if they'd be willing to donate their talents to decorating luminaria bags for this year's Relay For Life. She agreed and I must say that the students all did an outstanding job!
This year's Relay will be held at Eastside Park from 7 p.m. on July 29 to 7 a.m. on July 30. The Luminaria Ceremony begins at 11 p.m.
Dedicating a luminaria bag is a symbolic way of recognizing loved ones who are surviving cancer and remembering those who have lost the battle. Each bag will be lit during the ceremony and the name of each person honored will be read aloud.
The bags Artopia decorated will be on display at this year's Kick-Off on April 28 at Mountain Home Junior High from 6-8 p.m. For a $5 donation, you can choose from one of those or decorate one of your own. They'll be displayed at various events leading up to and including the relay itself. You can also contact Deedee Devol at 587-4187 to obtain them or if you'd like to help sell them. I have purple bracelets available for a $2 donation, as well.
If you'd like to start or join a team, join the committee or even just get more information about the relay, please don't hesitate to contact Jan Landon at relayforlifeelmorecounty@gmail.com.
