Following nearly four months of rehearsals to hone is musical skills, the Mountain Home High School Jazz Band took home top marks following the District III Jazz Festival earlier this month.

Held at Capital High School in Boise, the festival represents "a place where we get to perform for others and for judges to rate our performance," said Jerry C. Tippets, the high school's band director.

Based on a scale of one to five, a superior rating represents the highest grade any group could earn at the district event, Tippets said. Their finish this month was a step above the excellent rating they brought back last year.
