Junior wrestlers win at Kuna to finish 'dream season'
The junior high wrestling team capped off a "dream season" at the district tournament held Friday and Saturday in Kuna.
The team finished the regular season with a 12-0 dual record. Fourteen wrestlers placed at district helping the team take second place in the tournament.
The team had three individual district champions: Pierce Mederios at 79 pounds; Jacob Lucas at 85 pounds, and Jacob Ryan at 135 pounds
Pierce Mederios finished the season undefeated with a record of 24-0.
Tyler McCall wrestled Jacob Ryan in the finals match at 135 pounds and took second place.
Taylor Simpson and Kanoa Doronio wrestled each other for third place at 72 pounds with Taylor Simpson taking third and Kanoa Doronio taking fourth place.
Justin Lisonbee placed third at 98 pounds Tanner Sessions placed second at 130 pounds Abraham Salas placed third at 140 pounds Colt Lohmeier placed fourth and Taylor Ogaard placed fifth at 152 pounds Josh Deal placed fifth at 171 pounds Dale Knox placed third at 189 pounds and Dallin Dearing placed fifth at 215 pounds
This season marked a lot of firsts for the junior high wrestling team. The team beat Kuna in a dual for the first time in the program's history, marking the first time Kuna had lost a dual in 29 years.
The team also brought home the first two tournament trophies for the junior high program. The team placed first at the Robert Stuart Invitational in Twin Falls and second at the Inter-Valley League District Tournament.
The team was also undefeated in dual matches for the first time.
"We had a very young team this year with a lot of good 6th and 7th graders," said coach Patrick Starkey. "With another year of experience under their belt, they plan to work hard in the off season at camps and freestyle tournaments to come back and make another run at a district championship next year."
