Road conditions extremely hazardous
With approximately six inches of snow having fallen overnight, road conditions Wednesday morning were extremely treacherous. Anyone who doesn't have to drive is urged not to.
Road conditions over the next 24 hours are expected to get even worse, as warming temperatures expected to occur Wednesday will melt some of the snow, which will then freeze into ice overnight. Commute time are expected to be at least three times normal.
A Jackknifed semi trailer on the on ramp at I-84 Exit 95 in Mountain Home is blocking the ramp.
The truck slid off the road at about 5 a.m. Tow trucks arrived about 8 a.m. and were expected to have the vehicle off the road about 9 a.m.
Numerous slide-offs have been reported on area roads, although no serious accidents have been reported, so far. Wrecker companies are swamped with calls, however, from motorists stuck in the snow.
At least one law enforcement officer reported difficulty getting to work this morning because of heavy snow on his residential street.
A truck at the hill on milepost 107 also was stuck on the snow early Wednesday morning, limiting traffic flow in that area, and another disabled semi at milepost 114 also was partially blocking traffic.
City crews are trying to keep up with the continuing snowfall, both plowing and laying sand, but even in the middle of town the main roads are difficult to drive.
