Man charged in death of airman's wife

Felony DUI vehicular manslaughter charges have been filed in Twin Falls County against Homero Garibay-Alvarez, 36, of Ontario, Ore., who is accused of causing the death of Samantha K. Leonard, 23, of Mountain Home AFB. She died Saturday, Oct. 2, from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident Sept. 26 on Highway 93 between Twin Falls and Jackpot.

Garibay-Alvarez is being held on a $150,000 bond and an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold. Garibay-Alvarez, an illegal alien, was arraigned on the charges Monday.

Garibay-Alvarez was heading southbound on Highway 93 when he lost control of his 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup, crossed the center line about eight miles from the Idaho-Nevada border in Twin Falls County, and struck Leonard's 2001 Volkswagon GTI.
