UPDATE -- RV destroyed by fire; triggers rangefire
Highway 20 was closed in both directions for several hours Friday afternoon in the vicinity of Tollgate due to a fire involving an RV that subsequently triggered a rangefire.
The fire was reported just before 1 p.m. and shortly afterwards authorities closed the road to make room for emergency crews responding to the scene.
By 2 p.m. authorities had opened one line of the highway and allowing cars through by supervised convoy. The check points to hold traffic are about two miles from the scene of the incident.

The RV, A 32-foot Itasca, with propane tanks and over 100 gallons of gasoline aboard, was totally destroyed by the fire. All occupants of the RV escaped the fire and where unharmed. They have not been identified at this time.
The fire spread to some of the surrounding grassland and about 25 acres have burned in the rugged canyon just north of the scene. BLM crews, assisted by a water-carrying helicopter, are on the scene.
At 3:45 p.m. the road was closed again for one hour while firefighters from the BLM were setting a backfire to help control the blaze.
The cause of the fire in the RV is unknown at this time.
No further details are immediately available.
