State association approves sports tourney changes
The Idaho High School Activities Association board voted last week to change the format for the state volleyball and softball tournaments from a double-elimination format to single elimination, with a consolation and third-place game like that used in state basketball tournaments.
The change will be for two years and will be reviewed again after that time period.
The moves were made by the board in an effort to save the IHSAA and participating schools money -- deemed to be estimated in the thousands of dollars. Both votes, taken separately, passed by more than a three-to-one margin despite opposition from some athletic directors and coaches.
