At least two injured in Airbase Road wreck
Two people were injured following a two-car collision on Airbase Road near the railroad track crossing Friday morning just after 11 a.m.
Gloria Hardin, 77, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala when she apparently failed to yield as she entered Airbase Road from Bypass Road and was struck on the left side just in front of the driver's door by a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Patrick Rempel, who was southbound on Airbase Road.
The impact drove the Impala to the roadside. The pickup wound up in the center turn lane. The pickup was severely damaged on the right-hand quarter panel and the Impala was virtually destroyed.
Extrication teams were required to remove the Hardin from the Impala.
Hardin and Rempel's 9-year-old son were treated for non-lifethreatening injuries at the scene and transported to Elmore Medical Center for further treatment and evaluation. The child's older brother, who also was in the Remple pickup, and Patrick Remple, himself, were not injured in the accident.
The exact extent of the injuries to all of the injured is unknown at this time.
Further details were not immediately available pending an investigation by the Elmore County Sheriff's Department.
