School district fails Adequate Yearly Progress standards -- again
The Mountain Home School District has failed to meet the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standards each of the seven years the program to measure student performance has been in place.
And it's not likely it will ever pass, according to Supt. Tim McMurtrey, who noted that it's not just Mountain Home -- no school in the state the size of the Mountain Home School District or larger has ever passed the AYP standard.
"That doesn't mean we don't try," he said. "Each year, we've gotten better," with more students meeting the standards that call for each student to be reading and doing math at their grade level or better. "We want kids to succeed. We'd love to hit those goals. It's just that, for a district our size, it's virtually impossible to do it."
