Saturday morning crash blocked interstate for much of the day

Saturday, June 12, 2010

A crash eastbound on I-84 near milepost 112 (Hammett Hill) west of Glenns Ferry blocked traffic from early morning until mid-afternoon Saturday.

The incident apparently involved a semi-that overturned about 6:30 a.m. and spilled some hazardous material. Between clearing the wreckage, removing the semi and cleaning up the hazardous material traffic in the area was significantly disrupted.

The westbound lane of I-84 was shut down until about 10:30 a.m., and the eastbound lane did not reopen until 2:30 p.m.

Travel on I-84 was diverted to Highway 30 eastbound at Exit 99 and westbound at Exit 114 and for several hours was described as "bumper to bumper" along Highway 30 during the diversion.

No further details are immediately available. The accident is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
