Two die in single-vehicle accident near Hammett
Two teenagers, one from Glenns Ferry and one from Bliss, died in a single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred eastbound on Interstate 84 at mile marker 116 near Hammett at approximately 3 a.m.
Idaho State Police said Kody Ray Drake, 19, of Glenns Ferry and Ely, Nev., was travelling eastbound on the interstate when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle went off the left side of the road and rolled across the median into the westbound lanes.
Drake and a passenger, Amy Young, 18, of Bliss, were thrown from the vehicle and died on scene.
Two other passengers, identified as Mollee Shrum, 17, of Glenns Ferry, and Kallie Hurst, 20, of Hammett, were taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Shrum and Hurst were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from the hospital later that morning, according to family members.
None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
ISP said alcohol may have been a factor in this crash. The investigation is continuing.
The westbound lanes of the interstate were blocked for about three hours. Traffic was diverted off the interstate at exit 121.
