The Predator is a medium-altitude, long-endurance, unmanned aircraft system It primarily conducts interdiction and armed reconnaissance missions against critical, perishable targets.
Mountain Home Air Force Base is one of four installations under consideration to control the service's fleet of pilotless aircraft.
If approved, the base here would serve as one of a growing number of ground control stations responsible for flying the Air Force's fleet of MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft.
Other bases under consideration by senior Air Force officials include Ellsworth AFB, S.D.; Langley AFB, Va.; and Whiteman AFB, Mo.
