Wrestlers place at Madison tourney
The Mountain Home Tigers finished seventh at the Madison Wrestling Tournament at Rexburg last weekend.
Blackfoot ran away with the tourney, rolling up 251 points. Pocatello was second with 170, Jerome third with 162, Bonneville fourth with 144, Rigby fifth with 106, North Fremont sixth with 98 and Mountain Home seventh with 78. There were 15 teams that wrestled at the event.
Mountain Home had four wrestlers that placed in the tourney.
Cory Pinque took second at 125 pounds, Ryan Goldsby was third at 140, DeVonte McClain placed fourth at 119 and Tim Hazelbaker finished fourth at 171.
Tiger wrestling coach Lynn Knudson was pleased with the pro-gress his young squad is making each week.
"We're getting better each week and having more kids placing, and doing the things that they need to do to be successful," the Tiger coach said. "We're pleased with the improvement they're making each and every week."
The Tigers had a conference dual match at Nampa last Wednesday night, and came up on the short end of a 68-12 contest.
Mountain Home's points at Nampa came on a pin by Kevin Anderson at 160 pounds and decision wins by Zach Pomerantz at 152 and Tim Hazelbaker at 171.
This week, Mountain Home goes to Kuna tonight and travels to Idaho Falls to compete in the Tiger-Grizz Tournament this weekend.
JV Tigers place second at
Madison JV tourney
Mountain Home's JV wrestling squad came in second behind Wood River at the JV tourney held in conjunction with the varsity tournament.
Tyler Rios placed first at 125 pounds and Zach Pomerantz won the 145-pound weight class. Tomas Garza was second at 135 pounds. Perry Savage placed third at 140 and Sergio Guadarrama was third at 171. Fourth-place medals went to Stephen Lemmon at 215 and Tyler Oyler at 285. Juan Silva was fifth at 130 pounds.
