Lady Tigers rout Nampa
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers bounced back from a loss at Middleton to rout Nampa and gain a split of conference games last week.
Middleton 34, Mountain Home 30
Mountain Home hoped to hand the Lady Vikings their first conference loss last Tuesday at Middleton but came up a bit short, losing to the Lady Vikings 34-30.
Mountain Home took an early 3-0 lead but Middleton scored the next five points. Blas Lord's two free throws with 1:04 left in the first quarter tied the score at 5-5.
A basket by Rachel Warila put the Lady Tigers up, 7-5, with 6:12 left in the first half, but an 8-0 run by the Vikings made it 13-7, Middleton, before Mountain Home would score again on a basket by Dakota Barrie with 1:08 left in the quarter. It was 14-9, Middleton, at the half.
Mountain Home wasn't able to cut into the lead in the third and trailed, 23-17,heading into the fourth.
A trey by Jessica Liercke brought the Lady Tigers within two, 26-24, with 2:14 left in the game, but Middleton managed to stretch the lead back to six, 30-24, with 1:01 left. Mountain Home got no closer than four the rest of the way as the Lady Vikings hit seven of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold them off, 34-30.
"It was a battle," said Mountain Home coach Brent Keener after the game. "It wasn't the prettiest battle at times, but both teams really got after it. We just had numerous missed opportunities, and that's what killed us. "
Charde Huntington led the Lady Tigers in scoring with six points and 10 rebounds. Jessica Liercke and Shelby Posey both added five points, Blas Lord, Rachel Warila and Dakota Barrie each had four, and Arlene Futch had two.
Mountain Home also lost the preliminary games at Middleton, with the sophomores losing a close one, 40-38, and the JV girls falling 52-22.
Mountain Home 51, Nampa 24
Mountain Home outscored Nampa 29-5 in the second and fourth quarters to roll to a 51-24 conference win Friday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers struggled to a 12-9 lead after a quarter, but came alive in the second, with Dakota Barrie scoring 12 of her game-high 19 points in the second quarter as the Lady Tigers shot to a 30-14 halftime lead.
Mountain Home led 40-24 after three and held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the fourth to win 51-24.
"It was a nice win," said Coach Keener. "We struggled a bit the first quarter, but had a great second quarter to pretty much put it out of reach."
Dakota Barrie and Blas Lord both scored in double figures, with 19 and 15, respectively. Shelby Posey added five points, Jessica Liercke and Rachel Warila both added four, and Angie Rios and Charde Huntington each had two points.
The win improved the Lady Tigers to 12-4 overall, and 7-3 in league play. The Mountain Home ladies play at Kuna Thursday night, and are home Saturday against Columbia for a 2 p.m. game. Both the Mountain Home sophomores and JV girls beat Nampa in their games.
