El-Ada moves into larger facilities in Stardust Plaza
In response to increased demands for its services to low-income families in the local area, the county's El-Ada community action group moved last week to larger offices in the Stardust Plaza complex on North 3rd East Street.
In addition to needed office and storage space, the new facility includes an adjoining hall it uses as its main food distribution center for financially strapped people and families.
The hall became the deciding factor as El-Ada searched for a new home, said Terri Cornford, Elmore County coordinator for El-Ada.
"We looked and looked. There just wasn't a whole lot of options out there," Cornford said. "The hall next door worked out great."
Each weekday, El-Ada provides emergency services to low-income families, including perishable and non-perishable food and subsidies to help them cover utility payments. Qualifying families may receive additional help to weatherize their homes to help them cut energy costs.
