Tiger sophomore boys lose opening games

The Mountain Home Tiger sophomores struggled putting points on the scoreboard in their first two games of the boys basketball season.

The Tigers fell behind early and lost their season opening sophomore boys basketball game to Timberline, 58-23, last Tuesday in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home trailed 14-9 after a quarter. Michael Daniels hit a basket and free throw with 5:56 left in the second quarter to make it 19-13, Timberline, but the Tiger sophs then went almost nine minutes (8:49) before scoring again while the Wolves went on a 24-0 run to go up 43-13. It was 47-20, Timberline, after three. With the clock running continuously in the fourth quarter, the final score was 58-23, Timberline.

Alex Rodriguez led the Tigers with six points. Jared Day and Jeff Land both scored five, Chaise Hopkins added four and Michael Daniels scored three.

The Tigers had their problems scoring points again last Wednesday, falling to the Mountain View Mavericks 55-28 at Mountain View in Meridian.

Mountain Home fell behind 6-0 early, but went on a 10-1 run to take the lead, 10-7, with 2:14 left in the first quarter. The Mavericks scored the final eight points of the quarter to take a 15-10 lead and led 30-20 at the half.

Mountain Home managed just eight points in the second half, as they lost 55-28.

Alex Rodriguez led the Mountain Home scoring with 10 points. Jeff Land had five points, Chaise Hopkins and Tanner Lease both added four points, Michael Daniels had three and Jared Day scored two.
