JV Tigers end season with win over Emmett
The Mountain Home Tiger JV football team closed out its season with a 34-28 win at Emmett last Thursday.
After a scoreless first quarter, Emmett was first to get on the board, scoring on a 32-yard pass play.
On the ensuing kickoff, John Payton set up the Tigers' first score with a 78-yard kickoff return. Alex Rodriguez passed to Tyler Knauth for a five-yard touchdown pass to get the Tigers on the scoreboard.
Rodriguez threw two more touchdown passes in the second quarter, one of 11 yards to Ricky Castillo and another to Tyler Knauth for two, as the Tigers built up a 20-7 lead at halftime.
Austin Clark scored a couple of touchdowns in the third quarter, one on a 48-yard run, the other on a four-yard run, as Mountain Home increased its lead to 34-7 heading into the fourth quarter. Mountain Home then cleared the bench in the fourth quarter, and Emmett was able to score three times to for a 34-28 final.
"It was a great game to end the season on," said Tiger JV head coach Dallan Rupp. "We took a 34-7 lead into the fourth quarter, which allowed us to play some players who haven't got a lot of playing time this year. It was great for those players to be able to get some experience. It was a great team to work with and be a part of."
Clark led the rushing attack with 134 yards and two touchdowns on 14 rushes. Enrigue Varela rushed 11 times for 37 yards, Juan Silva had nine carries for 59 yards and Alex Rodriguez rushed four times for 23 yards.
Rodriguez completed 10 of 11 passes for 99 yards and three touchdowns. Ricky Castillo had three catches for 45 yards and a score, Clark caught three passes for 18 yards, Luke Filipovich had two catches for 29 yards and Tyler Knauth caught two passes for seven yards and two scores.
Defensively, the Tigers were led by Jesse Corbett, who had eight tackles and a sack. Luke Filipovich had six tackles and a pass interception, Jacob Perry had five tackles, David Katsules had three tackles and a fumble recovery and John Payton had two tackles and a pass interception.
The Tiger JV ended the season with a 6-3 overall record and 5-2 record in conference games.
