UPDATE City considering 4.5 percent hike in sewer, water fees

Correction - Water rate increase
Editor's note: A story in Wednesday's edition of the Mountain Home News includes two pieces of inaccurate information regarding a proposed increase to current water rates. The planned rate increase does not include increasing monthly sewer fees.
In addition, the proposed "heavy use" provision for businesses and residents using more than 4,000 gallons per month would see a three-cent increase for every additional 1,000 gallons used per month beyond that point. The current rate for all water usage is 67 cents.
A 4.5 percent increase in monthly water and sewer rates, has been proposed by the Mountain Home City Council.
It would be the first rate hike in two years.
During a meeting Oct. 27, the council also elected to include a "heavy use" provision for businesses and residences that use more than 4,000 gallons per month. It would charge an additional 70 cents for every additional 1,000 gallons used per month beyond that point.
If ratified by the council, the rate hikes could take effect by late November, said Mayor Tom Rist.
