Anonymous donor gives special rings to '08 State Champs'

Wednesday, November 4, 2009
Members of the 2008 girls softball team received rings commemorating the squad bringing Mountain Home High School the first state championship in its 110 year history.

In recognition of their championship season last year, the Mountain Home girls softball team was presented with championship rings in front of friends and family at Smokey Mountain Pizza last Tuesday night, Oct. 27.

Last year, the girls team pulled off the biggest victory in Mountain Home High School history, bringing home the city's first high school state championship.

The rings, donated to the girls by an anonymous donor, featured a black stone with a paw print in the center, the wording "2009" and a picture of a tiger engraved on one side with their name and "Softball" engraved on the other.

On the inside of the ring is a special engraving that reads, "First State Champions MHHS History."

As Coach Brian Asbury presented the girls with their rings, they were elated at what resulted from their hard work and championship effort.

"I'm speechless, it's kind of cool that we are the first team to win a state title for Mountain Home," said Charde Huntington.

As Asbury presented the rings he told the audience in attendance that he expects his girls will return next year as back-to-back state champions.

"Our sincere thank you to the anonymous donor," he said. "It's been an honor that we won this state title for not only our school but for the community."
