Mistakes cost JV Tigers on 'D', Columbia rushes for 18-0 win
The Mountain Home Tigers JV football team ran up against a tough Columbia JV football team last Wednesday at Columbia High School and lost 18-0.
Columbia scored and got a two-point conversion in the second quarter to go up 8-0 at halftime. They added a field goal and another score in the fourth quarter to make it an 18-0 final.
Mountain Home's potent running attack was held to just 99 yards on 42 rushes. Austin Clark was held to just 36 yards rushing on 12 rushes. Enrique Varela managed just 35 yards on 12 carries, DJ Hale had 21 yards on 14 rushing attempts and Alex Rodriguez rushed four times for seven yards.
Alex Rodriguez completed four of five passes for 39 yards.
Ricky Castillo caught two passes for 19 yards, Luke Filipovich had one for 15 yards and Austin Clark caught a pass for five yards.
Defensively, Jacob Perry, Jesse Corbett and Luke Filipovich led the way for the Tigers. Perry had 11 tackles and two sacks, Corbett had 10 tackles, a blocked punt and a fumble recovery, and Filipovich had eight tackles and a blocked punt.
"Columbia is a good team and we give them credit, but we did not play our best," said Tiger JV head football coach Dallan Rupp.
"Too many mistakes in all phases of the game created opportunities for them, and when you give a good team enough opportunities they are going to take advantage of those opportunities eventually."
The loss dropped the JV Tigers to 3-2 on the season and 2-2 against conference teams.
The JV Tigers are at Bishop Kelly Thursday evening.
