Victim in rollover accident dies of injuries
A passenger in a vehicle that rolled on I-84 Wednesday afternoon died of her injuries Thursday at a Boise hospital.
Jessica C. Weir, 20, of Hillsdale, Mich., died following the one-vehicle rollover, eastbound on I-84 at milepost 90, Wednesday just after 1 p.m.
According to Idaho State Police, Airman 1st Class Caleb Mark Zody, 19, of Glendive, Mont., a member of the 391st AMU weapons flight at Mountain Home Air Force Base, was driving east in a blue 1994 Honda Accord, when, for unknown reasons, he drove off the right side of the road, rolling the vehicle.
Zody was wearing a seatbelt. He was transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
Jessica Weir was not wearing a seatbelt and was reported to have been thrown nearly 100 feet from the vehicle when it rolled.
She was transported by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, where she died the following day.
Also in the vehicle was Airman 1st Class Jacqlyn C. Weir, 20, of Hillsdale Mich., a member of the 391st Aircraft Maintenance Unit specialist section at Mountain Home AFB. She was wearing a seatbelt.
She was transported by ground ambulance to Elmore Medical Center in Mountain Home.
The interstate was shut down briefly while ambulance and law enforcement teams worked on the victims and cleared the road for the air ambulance. The county extrication team was needed to remove Zody from the vehicle.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The crash is still being investigated by Idaho State Police.
