Town gets ready for Air Force Appreciation Day
The city of Mountain Home will pause to honor past and current military veterans, including those stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base, during the 49th annual Air Force Appreciation Day festival Sept. 12.
Scheduled the first Saturday after each Labor Day, the annual event brings together military members and their families along with community leaders, local residents, private businesses and non-profit organizations from the Mountain Home area and across southern Idaho. It features the largest parade in the state and, overall, the event usually draws more than 10,000 people to the party celebrating the military.
During AFAD, people in the Mountain Home community have the opportunity to win several prizes raffled off the afternoon of Sept. 12 in Carl Miller Park. DeMeyer Furniture donated a $1,000 shopping spree as the grand prize this year with the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce offering a pair of $500 cash prizes.
Other raffle prizes include a Craftsman 19.2-volt drill combination kit from Sears, a natural gas barbecue from Intermountain Gas, a one-night stay and dinner for two at Cactus Pete's along with camping equipment and a DVD player donated by local business owners.
Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and available in advance at the Mountain Home News, Mountain Home City Hall, the Hair Hut, La Mode Cleaners, DeMeyer Furniture, Paul's Market and D&B Supply. Tickets also go on sale at Carl Miller Park during AFAD.
