Mountain Home teen drowns in Owyhee County
A 17-year-old Mountain Home youth, Garrett Bradshaw, died Monday afternoon when he drowned in the Bruneau River.
Bradshaw was one of four youths that were apparently jumping off some cliffs near the highway just above a low retaining dam on the river, in the Indian Bathtubs area, when he and the other youths were swept over the dam.
According to Harvey Grimme, Owyhee County Coroner, all four of the youths, who were not otherwise identified, were trapped in the turbulence below the dam. "Three of them came out, scared as heck, but he didn't," Grimme said.
However, one of the surviving youths, Grimme said, dove back into the water, found Bradshaw's body, and brought it to shore about 100 feet below the dam.
"He should get a bravery award," Grimme said.
When he arrived, the coroner pronounced Bradshaw dead at the scene.
Grimme said that the area is commonly used by youths for swimming, but the river right now is running "very fast and is very cold."
He is the son of Kathleen Bradshaw of Mountain Home.
