Sudden storm triggers flooding throughout city
The sudden storm that ripped through Mountain Home just before 4 p.m. Friday, dropping a large amount of rain and hail, caused significant flooding throughout the city.
Immediately following the onset of the 15-minuted deluge, the underpass had two to three feet of water in it and drivers moving through the downtown area were up to their hubcaps in water, which threatened to enter the ground-floor areas of many businesses.
Areas of the city that normally flood during any storm due to back-ups in the city's stormwater removal system were overflowing well beyond normal.
In less than two hours, however, even though a heavy rain continued to fall, the worst of the flooding had cleared up, with the downtown drain systems and the pumps in the underpass restoring the roadway to wet, but not flooded, conditions.
