Cal Clevenger shows students how easy it is to start a fire with just steel and flint.

Last week, for the sixteenth year in Carl Miller Park, Cal and Marla Clevenger led fourth grade "wranglers" and their teacher/parent trail bosses through a Wagons Ho western pioneer experience.

While Marla Clevenger tended the campfire and began preparing lunch, Cal gathered the students in a group, telling them about life in the western frontier, interspersing his talk with important safety information the children would need to know for their own "frontier" experience to be injury free.

  • I would like to thank Mr. & Mrs. C. for all they do for our children! I was fortunate enough to go on Wednesday with West & Base Primary & all of our kids had a fantastic time!

I hope that, in years to come, Mr. & Mrs. C. are able to offer this special day for our children. The world needs more people like them-thank you!

  • Ah, I remember when I did this in Elementry school, I think it was in the fourth grade or so.

It was fun, glad to see others are having fun too. :D
