Mountain Man Wrestling Club wins medals at its own invitational meet
The Mountain Man Wrestling Club hosted its annual Mountain Man Challenge last weekend.
Teams from all over the Treasure Valley, along with Northern Idaho and Nevada converged on Mountain Home to compete.
The local club finished fourth overall as a team.
Friday night started the Greco-Roman competition "and only a few of our kids had ever done Greco before," said coach Kevin Staebler. "The guys finished very well in their respective divisions and weight classes."
Intermediate division wrestler Kanoa Doronio fiinshed with first-place honors while Dallin Powell finished second and Spencer Jameson earned third place.
In the Novice Division Jonathon Jones and Chance Hense finished second in their weight classes. Jacob Lucas place third and Nicholas Shoemaker finished the evening competition with fourth-place honors.
Schoolboys division saw Tanner Sessions earn gold, Jacob Wendall won silver and Austin Lucas and Bobby Dominguez finished with third-place efforts in their respective weight classes.
Saturday's Freestyle competition was "fast, furious and very competitive." Kevin Staebler said.
In the Pre-Bantam division Hunter Coots finished the day in fifth place. Bantams Trevor Dockstader and Jacob Lichdi lead the group with third-place finishes. Tanner Keener finished fifth and Nathan Jones finished in sixth.
In the Intermediate division Kanoa Doronio won his second Gold medal in as many days while Logan Strom earned second place.
Chance Hense lead the Novice group with his second silver medal while Nicholas Shoemaker finished fourth. Jonathon Jones finished fifth and Jacob Lucas finished sixth in their respective weight classes.
School boy division was lead by Tanner Sessions again capturing the gold and Jacob Wendall wrestled to another second-place finish.
Bobby Dominguez and Charlie Shoemaker finished the day with third-place finishes and Quentin Graham finished fourth.
Also wrestling but unable to place on Saturday was Spencer Jameson. Due to Illness Dallin Powell was unable to compete.
Jon Ryan represented the Mountain Man Wrestlers in Pocatello at the Cadet and Junior State Tournament, finishing fourth in his cadet division and weight class in the Freestyle competition.
Next week the club will travel to Centennial High School to compete in the Idaho Express tournament hosted by the Patriot Wrestling Club.
